My cousin sent us homemade wine and olive oil , tarrali, cheese, and chocolate for Christmas! It was a wonderful gift to receive unexpectedly. They live in the Benevento are near Naples. I love visiting there and reading your stories.
Happy new year to you!
I can realte to this. i make my own home made Petite Syrah red wine every year and as such I’m an accomplished home wine maker who wine awards at the county fairs, the Marin County Fair and the Sonoma County Harvest Fairs respectively. These last couple of years I gave my best ‘buds’ a coues of my special Christmas Panettone made with my heritage all natural soursough starter. Since your home made wine is from your cousins in Benevento, I’ll guess it’s made from Aglianico, the ancient grape believed to have been brought to Southern Italy by the Greek Colonists who settled that area starting in the 5th century BC. This wine grape was also used by the Romans for producing many of their wines and in fact the wines of Campania were highly esteemed in Rome and were exported throughout the empire.
Happy New Year’s Susan—I just went to the post office to pick up a large package from Florence—from my dear friends—who will be receiving their package a bit later as it will have to be an Epiphany package 😉
Just so happy to have a small flavor today from all things Italia!!!
ciao ciao
Buon Anno a tutti
